We start Advent this Sunday...

Contrary to the way the culture celebrates this season, Advent traditionally has been a penitential time--a time to turn. What are we turning from? That is probably as unique as each person and each culture. But the president's press conference last night can give us some clues, albeit exaggerated ones.  We're turning from the misconceived notion that life is all about us, that we are often nothing but victims, that power is meant to belittle, not empower, that truth is our enemy, rather than our friend.  Advent, like Lent, can be a powerful opportunity to move in new directions.  What do you want to turn from and toward?
