Victimization

I worry about our overdose of such language because sometimes it causes us to miss who the real victims of life are. The Biblical narrative, as the Exodus story reveals, is on the side of the victims. It is a consistent theme throughout the Bible. But victimization can become whininess. As we heard the message yesterday that we as a country have been victimized for decades, as we hear folks with boatloads of money maintain that they are the true victims in life, as everything that occurs or every incorrect word is spoken is viewed as a matter of victimization, I find myself thinking that victimization is being used often by entitled people for their own narrow purposes. I am not convinced. And frankly, the result is that the true victims are overlooked.
