Bad theology = bad politics
I frequently say that bad theology produces bad politics.
Mike Huckabee has horrible Biblical theology, receiving support from Timothy LaHaye, the author of the miserable "Left Behind" series, for his presidential run in 2008. LaHaye's books and Huckabee's theology are based on a inaccurate reading of books like Revelation and Daniel that does not understand these books in their historical context. The result is an unqualified support of the nation of Israel, which is seen as a necessary player in some global chess game. If you want Jesus to come back, you need to get Israel to become a nation (that happened in 1948) and then you need to reestablish the temple which will bring about animal sacrifice again, which will eventuate in Jesus' return. Ugh! I didn't realize that Jesus needed so much help. According to Huckabee, there is no West Bank, no Palestine, no Palestinians, no occupation. I'm sorry. I've witnessed all of these. Bad theology, bad Biblical work=bad politics.
