Take The High Road
The portion of Psalm 34 that is the appointed Psalm for this weekend gets real practical: "Which of you desires life, and covets many days to enjoy good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."
In other words, "If you want the Good Life, watch what you say and tell the truth. Go after the good stuff." I really think that those who are busy tearing other people apart, pedaling mistruths, and not going after the honorable and that which builds other people up, may appear to be at the top of the heap in the culture. But truthfully, no matter how much money they make or how popular they are, their lives often don't represent the Good Life. You can see that by how crabby they are. People who want the good life are those who are busy building up, not tearing down, community.
