Good Leaders

As a leader, I often think of what good leadership looks like, an issue that certainly applies to our current presidential election.

For me, I must admit that I want the leader to value what I value--advocating for the left out in the society and care for creation. These are fundamentals to those of us who operate out of a worldview that is shaped by the Bible. I want them to be people of integrity. I don't want them to tell people what they think they want to hear, but what they need to hear. I want them to be truthful, relying on others, not themselves alone, to discern the truth. I want them to be folks who can bring out the best in all of us. I want them to call us to our highest, not our worst. I also want them to reflect a servant's heart. Now I understand that in our land when you get to the place of running for president, you probably have lived a privileged life. It's hard to find someone who is "one of us" seeking the presidency. But I still want to know whether what they are doing comes from a place of humility and a desire to serve the country. Now admittedly, when I apply these criteria I often am left with no one to vote for. No one is perfect. And this year's choice makes that abundantly clear. But when I apply these criteria I find that my decision making becomes much easier.
