Thoughts in Greece

Being in Greece makes me think a lot about the ancient, the contemporary, tradition, ritual, and relevance.

I find myself intrigued by the ancient and the rituals of the ancient.  There is such a need for grounding in modern life. But there is also a big need, in my opinion, for the ancient to be translated into the language of the contemporary.  I suspect it is no surprise that generally I am a fan of Martin Luther, who wanted the faith to be spoken in the languages of the people.  The ancient that doesn't speak to the real concerns and experiences of modern people is for me somewhat vacuous, although I am open to having my mind changed or my view nuanced.
