Fear Politics

Yesterday in Michigan, we heard, "They are coming to take your jobs." They (a word often used in the politics of fear) refers to immigrants. This is simply not true. One of the biggest challenges in today's economy is finding enough workers. Without immigrants, many of whom will do work that quite a few Americans will not, the job situation in our country would be terrible. Making such statements about "they" and "them" might rally some people because fear is normal to the human condition, but it does a great disservice to struggling people who are doing their best to find a way in life. And frankly, it does a great disservice to us, who can do much good when truth is told.
